'Ballard Down in Spring' Linoprint

from £130.00
Sold Out

Original reduction lino print of Ballard Down in Purbeck, situated on the Jurassic coast in Dorset. This beautiful part of Dorset's coastline is on the south west coast path as you walk from Swanage towards Studland. It represents spring time when the gorse is in full bloom and the swifts.

This is printed by hand from a hand-carved lino block using traditional printing techniques in my home in Dorset. It is a four-layer reduction linocut, a method of block printing in which each colour layer is taken from the same block. More lino is removed from the block for each layer and each colour is printed on top of the last. This means that an entire edition must be printed in one go – once you have carved into the block for the next layer, you can’t go back to print more. For this reason, it is sometimes referred to as the ‘kamikaze’ printmaking. .This is a Limited Edition of just 15 prints.
